WADE THE WINNER

NEW ZEALAND CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP UNASSAILABLE POSITION R. G. Wade, of Wellington, will win .the 1947-48 New Zealand chess title. With the tenth of the 11 rounds of the championship played yesterday, Wade has an unassailable lead. T. Lepviikman, of Palmerston North, and formerly of Estonia and Wellington, is in third place, two and a-half points behind Wade. Lepviikman has held the title for the past two years, and Wade was the New Zealand champion for the two years before that. Wade is the present champion of the South-western States of America. The congress will conclude to-day, and the prizes will be presented this evening in the Burt Hall, King Edward Technical College, by the Mayor, Mr Cameron. Championship At the end of the tenth round in the championship the position of the players is:—R. G. Wade (Wellington) 9 points; H. McNabb (Nelson), 7 points; T. Lepviikman (Palmerston North), 64 points; D. I. Lynch (Hastings), W. M. Stewart (Christchurch) and R. O. Scott (Wellington), 6 points; A. E. Nield (Sydney) and J. F. Lang (Dunedin), 54 points; C. B.
