VISIT NOT POSSIBLE

AUSTRALIAN CRICKET TEAM TO DOMINION HEAVY MATCH PROGRAMME MELBOURNE, Dec. 31. The Australian Cricket Board of Control has declined invitations to send teams to New Zealand and the West Indies. The applications were refused because the Australian team would not return from England until about the end of November, 1948, after which interstate matches would, have to be flayed, and because there would be a tour of South Africa in 1949-50. New Zealand wahted a tour in 194849, and the West Indies asked for a visit between January and April, 1949. The Australian team to tour England will leave Fremantle by the Strathaird on March 15, but no date of return can yet be determined. A match will be played in Ceylon if the ship stays there long enough. The first match in England will be against Worcester on April 28. The Australian cricketers will receive £937 10s each for the tour, including £137 10s exchange on sterling paid while they are in Ehgland. Each member will receive £IOO before embarking, £SOO during the tour, and £l5O on his return to Australia, subject to his reports being satisfactory, and £SO for incidentals while in England. On the. 1938 tour each man received £750.
