VICTORIA CROSS HOLDER “UNIQUE IN NEW ZEALAND” P.A. WELLINGTON, Nov. 21. Church histoj-y will be made in the cathedral church of St. Paul on Sunday, November 30, when Lieutenant Keith Elliott, V.C., formerly a farmer of Mangamaire, Pahiatua, and recently a student at College House, Christchurch, will be ordained by the Bishop of Wellington, the Rt. Rev. R. H. Owen. This will be the first occasion that a holder of the Victoria Cross will enter the Anglican Church in New Zealand as a deacon. It is understood that Mr Elliott will serve as a curate at Palmerston North. “The ordination of a holder of the Victoria Cross is certainly unique in New Zealand,” said Bishop Owen today. He added that while there were several clergymen holding the decoration in England, he could recall only one instance where an ordination had taken place after the bestowal of an award.
