WAGE INCREASE

FEDERATION’S PROPOSAL SUPPORTED BY CARPENTERS •P.A. WELLINGTON, Nov. 21. A proposal that the New Zealand Federation of Labour should seek a further increase in wages was endorsed to-day at the national conference of the New Zealand Carpenters and Joiners’ Union conference, which also endorsed the policy of the last Labour Party conference calling for firm control of building through building control committees. * A resolution was adopted that the present trade training schools should be retained for the full-time training of apprentices. This proposal was referred to the Dominion Apprenticeship Committee with a view to its adoption. The national executive was asked to prepare a report on how the union could contribute to the Aid to Britain campaign. The national president, Mr F. M. Langley (Christchurch), the vice-pre-sident,'Mr W. Greig (Auckland), and the secretary, Mr R. Stanley (Auckland) were re-elected.
