RYDER CUP GOLF

AMERICANS WIN ALL OPENING

GAMES

Rec. 10 p.m. NEW YORK, Nov. 1. The United States won all four matches of the Ryder Cup series on a soddbn Portland, Oregon, course today to go into a four-point lead ovet Britain in the international competition which has been revived after a 10-year lapse." The United States needs only three victories in to-morrow’s eight singles matches to retain the cup. The matches to-day were played in the Scottish foursome style with two Britons paired against two Americans and hitting alternate shots. Most of the British players ruefully admitted that their putting was inferior to that of the Americans. The visitors also found considerable trouble on the fairways. The results were:— Ed. Oliver and Lew Worsham beat Henry Cotton and Arthur Lees 10—9, Sam Snead and Lloyd Mangrum beat Fred Daly and Charles Ward 6 —5, Byron Nelson and Herman Barron beat Dai Rees and Sam King 2—l, Ben Hogan and Jimmy Demaret beat James Adams and Max Faulkner 2 up.
