PRICES REMAIN FIRM, At yesterday’s Balclutha sale a medium yarding of fat sheep was forward and was disposed of at late rates. Small-lots of ewes and lambs met with strong competition. The fat cattle section, mainly cows of good quality, sold firm on recent rates. The store cattle yarded found ready buyers and reflected the high fat cattle prices. Prices:— Fat sheep: Woolly wethers, to 655; woolly young ewes, 49s to 535. Shorn ewes: Prime, 40s to 43s 6d; medium, 33s to 38s. Store sheep: Best young ewes and lambs, to 275; aged ewes and lambs, 18s to 245. Fat cattle: Prime heavy cows, £l7 10s to £2l ss; medium, £l2 to £ls 10s. Store cattle: Three and four-year Shorthorn bullocks. £l7 12s Gd to £lB 7s 6d; twoyear Shorthorn steers, to £l3 7s Gd.
