RIVER REPORTS
POMAHAKA PROSPECTS GOOD Reports supplied to the Otago Acclimatiaation Society indicate that most of the streams will be at the difficult stage for angling at the week-end, but the Catlins, Owaka and Pomahaka appear to be the best for the individual angler. Mimihau and Wyndham rivers are slightly up, but in good order. Mataura river.—Still high and discoloured. Indications good. Pomahaka river.—Slightly up, but in good order. Waipahl.—Clear and in perfect order for fly fishing. Catlins and Owaka rivers.—Slightly up, but in good order. Weather likely to keep fine. Shag river.—Clear in the ripples and slightly milky in the pools. Present conditions not ideal. Mahinerangi Dam.—Still rising. Not many fish have been taken on the fly, except after dark. Several fish have been taken from the Waipori river just above the dam. Points in the dam seem the best for minnow as well as the arms of the old Louella lake. The Otago Acclimatisation Society’s gold medal competition, conducted by the Otago Anglers’ Association, is being fished on the Waipahi and has attracted 33 anglers, so that this stream will be well covered, particularly to-morrow. sttmtttmmmtnntmmmmtnmmimn
