FORTY-THREE CANDIDATES FINAL ACCEPTANCE DATE EXTENDED Rec. 11.45 p.m. MELBOURNE. Oct. 30. When the final acceptances were due at 1 p.m. to-day for the Melbourne Cup. which will be run on Tuesday, November 4, 43 horses remained in. In order ■to avoid a ballot, the committee deferred final acceptances until 8 p.m. on Saturday. It is hoped by that time sufficient horses will be withdrawn to bring the field within the safety limit. The following remained in at 1 p.m. to-day:— Melbourne Cup, of £ 10,000 and a trophy valued at £300; second horse, £2000; ■ third, £IOOO. Two miles.—Columnist 9.5.
