RUGBY BROADCASTS
Sir—l can assure your sports editor that the pressmen at the North-South Island ' Rugby match were not the only ones who were harassed by the announcer. Since Saturday last I have discovered that I was one among many listeners who, after trying in vain to make head or tail of the spate of words, switched off in despair.—l am, etc., St. Hilda. Sir, —Can you tell me why an announcer from the North Island has to be sent to the South Island to broadcast important football matches? The announcer should be a fairly good Judge of the game and be able to control his provincial feelings and not be carried away by his own particular pets. This “ Fred,” “ Johnny,” “ Bob ” business is called in—listeners want a clear, unbiased description of the game and not a plastering uo of certain provincial players. I am surprised at the South Islanders taking this sort of thing so meekly.—l am, etc Listener In.
