PETROL SAVING
Sir, —There appeared in the Daily Times on October. 2 a cablegram headed: "London. —Monster Petition Against Abolition of Petrol Ration.” The organisers of this petition hoped to secure nearly 20,000,000 signatures. Now, if the motorists of Britain are taking such a step, why should we in New Zealand, with a total population less than that of Glasgow—or slightly more than Birmingham—be so anxious to make a sacrifice—for our aid in this case would be so little felt by Britain—that would ..gravely inconvenience New Zealand motorists. Even if rationing does return—l would suggest that returned servicemen be excluded from its regulations—surely that would not be too great a concession to grant them remembering that great numbers of returned servicemen are travellers and salesmen. Travelling the country by rail or bus is extremely exacting and tiresome.—I am, etc.,
