VALUE QUESTIONED

MR RANDOLPH CHURCHILL’S VIEWS DISCUSSION BY 2 N.Z.E.F. “Mr Randolph Churchill' has said that fifth columnists are our worst enemies. I say that any man who attempts to engender war is the biggest fifth columnist there ever was, declared Mr R. Gilbert at the annua, meeting of the Dunedin branch of the 2 N.Z.E.F. Association, held last night. “It would be a wiser plan -for him to return to his own country and convince his own people because he will not sway the opinion of the Kiwi, Mr Gilbert said. Mr J. P. Mathieson said that the Kiwis would help their fellow soldiers, the Tommies, as much as they could in Britain’s crisis, because they had fought side by side in the war. We do not want a warmonger here, he said, and asked what the attitude of the association was to Mr Churchill. The Dominion president, Mr K. Melvin, said that the association was not particularly interested in the visit of Mr Churchill and he did not think any impression would be made on public opinion by Mr Churchill’s views. “I begrudge the time given to this discussion,” said Mr Melvin who added that -he wondered if Mr Churchill was worth all “this powder and shot.” , , • After several members had spoken on the subject, it was decided to take any further discussion in committee.
