NOTES FROM RICCARTON
SPELL FOR COPPER COIN Special to the Daily Times CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 5. Pensacola, who is to have a spell in Southland, left last night for Wingatui, and he will continue his trip to Riverton next week, under the care of J. Thistleton. A. Stokes left this morning'on his way to Wingatui, where he will ride Stabilisation, Air Ace, and Slick at the Otago Hunt Club’s meeting. . After Renowned races at Ashburton next week she may be transferred to W. J. Bromby’s stable at Trentham, accompanied by Mr R. J. Murphy's other three-year-old filly Eminence, by Coronach from Peerless.
Copper Coin will not race at the Ashburton meeting next Week. She struck herself a few days ago, and E. S. Rosewarne has decided to spell her for a few months, after which she will be got ready for autumn racing. Her recent form suggests that she will do well in open company. Mr J. Wilson, of Riccarton, has the four-year-old Le Sonnet, back in work, after spelling since Easter. He has also made- a start on a new horse from the same family. This is a three-year-old gelding by Paper Slipper from Sonneteer, by Nightmarch from the dam of Le Sonnet, He is small and backward, so he will require time. The apprentice A. M. Ellis is laid up in hospital, having had an operation on one of his feet. He is on the mend, but he will be off the scene for a few weeks.
C. Stokes, who broke a wrist In a fall at Trbntham in July, has made a good recovery, and he expects to be riding at Ashburton next week.
