AIR TRAFFIC

TRANSFER TO PARAPARAUMU HEAVY COST INVOLVED i Special Correspondent WELLINGTON, Sept. 5. The closing of Rongotai to commercial aircraft and the consequent transfer of traffic to Paraparaumu will cost the National Airways Corporation between £60,000 and- £65,000 a. year. This is an official estimate supplied by the office- of the corporation. Of this figure it is estimated that about £40,000 will be required for passenger ground transport, and it has been decided to charge this amount to passengers by way of the increase of 10s in all fares in and out of. Wellington, as already announced. The flat rate of increase has been arrived at by dividing the £40.000 by the average number of passengers travelling in and out of Wellington in a year. The number of travellers is 80,000. The remaining additional costs, amounting to £20,000 to £25,000, will be' borne by the corporation, No aircraft will be left at Paraparaumu overnight. Those finishing the day there will require to be flown to Rongotai for servicing. This in itself will add considerably to the corporation’s costs.
