OVER BOTH POLES
FLIGHT AROUND WORLD CHICAGO, Sept. 3. Mr Milton Reynolds, pen manufacturer, *said to-day that preparations for his “ vertical ” round-the-world flight over both Poles were progressing rapidly. After flying over the North Pole from Alaska to Tokio. the aircraft, which would be piloted by Captain Bill Odom, holder of the “horizontal” world* flight record, would call at New Zealand for a complete check of equipment. and the crew would then make a 7000-mile non-stop hop over the Antarctic Continent into South America. The aircraft will be a 832 Consolidated bomber, which is almost as large as a 829 and slightly faster. It will carry eight or 10 men, in addition to the pilot, and include at least five scientists, who will seek weather information and take photographs of the Arctic and Antarctic regions. Mr Reynolds added that the arr#y air force had been opposed to the flight when it was first suggested, but it was now co-operating with the expedition. and was lending much equipment.
