MILK DELIVERIES
FEW COMPLAINTS SCHEME WELL ESTABLISHED The new milk zoning scheme is now established satisfactorily in the city. Although some householders were not left milk yesterday morning, the number was substantially fewer than on the opening day of the new delivery system. Those who were not supplied with milk were principally people who had just returned from holidays, or were not at home when the milkmen called to ascertain their requirements. Householders who did not obtain milk are recommended by the secretary of the Dunedin Metropolitan Milk Board, Mr A. E. Russell, to leave a note with the person next door to indicate to their milkman what quantity of milk they require and where their receptacles can be found. Those persons who failed to receive milk were not aware in many oases of the identity of the vendor in their own zones, and were thus unable to advise him of their requirements. Mr Russell told the Daily Times yesterday that many householders appeared to think that the Milk Board sold milk. He explained that the board merely controls the licences' under which the milk vendors operate. The vendor purchasing the goodwill for the sale of milk in each zone is the only person who can sell milk there. It was unnecessary for two trips to be made by the great majority of milk vendors yesterday morning, as was done on the opening day of the new scheme. Most of the vendors had solved the difficulties involved in finding receptacles, and satisfied their customers’ needs.
