FAST PASSES OFF QUIETLY

JERUSALEM, Rec. 8.30 p.m. Rug. 26. The dawn-to-dusk fast which the Jewish National Council decreed as a protest against the sending of Jewish immigrants from Port Debouc to Germany, passed off quietly. Cafes and cinemas were closed, but the shops were opened and work continued in factories. The Jewish National Council has received a reply from the United Nations Sub-committeee on Palestine to its request for intervention on behalf of the Port Debouc immigrants. The committee said it was unable to intervene as the matter was outside its terms of reference.
