HOTELS IN BERMUDA
PURCHASE BY ANGLO-AMERICAN SYNDICATE N.Z.P.A. Special Correspondent Rec. 9 p.m. LONDON. Aug. 20. An Anglo-American combine, headed by Sir William Stephenson, the Canadian financier who was head of the 'British security organisation in New York during the war, has purchased three of the largest luxury hotels in Bermuda from the Furness Withy Shipping Line. Sir William stated that the majority of the revenue derived from the hotels would remain in the sterling area and would divert millions of dollars to Britain. Major control will be British, though Pan-American Airways have a share in the syndicate. Between them the hotels have over 600 rooms gnd all* of them are expected to be in full operation by Christmas. At present two of the hotels, which were used as censorship headquarters during the war. are still closed to the public.
