TRADE WITH JAPAN
VISIT BY BUSINESSMEN EXPLORATION OF MARKET Industrial Correspondent V WELLINGTON, Aug. 20. ‘ Of New Zealand’s auota of six business men permitted to enter Japan this month as a preliminary to the reopening of trading, two will leave by air next week and two more may follow them almost immediately. The visit of these men will be mainly for exploratory purposes. It is not yet clear whether many of the goods available for export from Japan will prove of a type suitable for New Zealand requirements, nor to what extent trading may be developed. The chief interest will lie (n a restricted range of soft goods and in Japanese oak, of which New Zealand imported considerable quantities before the war. The aim of the importers is to study at first hand the types and quality of goods available. It is planned that if imports are made in any reasonable quantity, the business should be equitably shared within the distributing trades. i Lists sent from Japan of the goods available, cover a wide range of items from frozen frog legs and fishing equipment to textiles, rubber goods, seeds, pearls and novelties.
