It was first sung by Carey in 1740. The name of the author of the words appears to be obscure. The tune of “ God Save the King ” was adopted as a Danish national air in 1790, and as a German National Anthem in 1793. The title of the German version is “ Heil Deir Im Siegerkanz.” Weber introduced this air into his ‘ Jubel ” overture, and it was employed on several occasions by Beethoven, notably in his " Battle ” symphony. “ Simmy.”—The two sons of the Countess of Harewood (the Princess Royal) are living. Wellington, to ascertain if the consent of the Minister of Internal AfTairs can now be obtained to have the alteration made in the name in accordance with your wishes. Previously when the Minister's consent was obtained a fee of 10s had to be paid before the alteration was made. “ Countryman,” Heriot.—lf a man dies and leaves the whole of his estate to h:s widow, amounting to £2OOO. no death duty is payable. Actually, an estate valued up to £SOOO. left by a husband, to his widow, is exempt from death duty, but if a wife’s estate is left to her husband death duty at the rate of 8 per cent is payable. The position in this respect is unaltered if husband and wife have their money placed in a joint account in the bank. The matter is definitely one in which you should consult your solicitor.
