MOTORING INTERESTS
MEETING OF ASSOCIATION Mr A. C. Taylor was in the chair at the monthly meeting of the Automobile Association (North Otago) on Tuesday night. The following members were present: Messrs W. M. Richardson, W. Gillies, E Guthrie J. Gerrie, M. Mirfin, A. B. Yeoman, H. J. Jenkins, T. G. McGregor, J. W. Petrie, H. D. Sim and J. G. Barr clay. The Wanaka Islands Domain Board wrote seeking financial assistance to enable improvements to be made to its local camping grounds at an estimated cost of £9so.—The Finance Committee recommended, and it was agreed, that in view of the heavy expenditure to which the association was committed in the building of club rooms, the letter be received. The secretary, Mr H. Hay, reported that arrangements for the annual meeting on August 20 were well in hand. Mr Leathern, of the Transport Department, would be present to screen the department’s film “ Give Way ” and other subjects. The chairman reported that in company with the local Railways Department engineer he had visited Puttick’s Crossing. The engineer had stated that a subway was almost out of the .question; but considerable work had been carried out by the department to improve the view of the line. • It was reported that complaints had been received regarding the speed with which motor vehicles passed through Herbert township. It was agreed to renew the signposts outside the township, drawing attention to the fact that speed should be reduced. Eleven new members were elected.
