HOCKEY
REPRESENTATIVE GAMES Last Saturday the North Otago senior team beat Ashburton by 3 goals to 2 to register its first win of the season in representative hockey. This is also the first match the senior team has won since the end of the war. Last season the team was defeated in every game, sometimes only by a small margin. The team was the strongest that could be fielded, and it was apparent towards the finish of the game that it was the fitter of the two. The combination of the side could still be improved, as players are inclined .to play solo, but, taking all things into consideration, it gained- a deserving win. The senior B game was spectacular from start to finish. Both teams played hard hockey, but North Otago’s better 1 combination was the deciding factor. Future games are as follows:—North Otago senior A and B teams and junior boys’ team v. South Canterbury, at Timaru on August 30; North Otago senior A v. Southland, at Invercargill, possibly on September 6; North Otago senior A v. a second senior Canterbury team at Oamaru towards the end of September. Draw for Saturday Seniors—Oamaru A v. Kakanui, Kakanui, 2.30 p.m. (Mr A. S. Dowdle); Rovers v. Tainui White, No. 1 ground, 2.30 p.m. (Messrs C. Rawstorn and Austin); Tainui Black v. Oamaru, No. 2 ground, 2.30 p.m. (Mr N. Pinder); Waimate, a bye. Juniors. —St. Patrick’s v Kurow, No. 1 ground, 1.15 p.m. (Mr M. Stringer); Oamaru v. Rovers, No. 2 ground, 1.15 p.m. (Mr R. Brown); Kakanui, a bye. I
