QUEENSTOWN’S POPULARITY Special to the Daily Times QUEENSTOWN, Aug. 18. The popularity of the Coronet Peak snowfieid for ski-ing has been shown by the increasing number of visitors to the town. During the week-end all the hotels were fully booked, and over 150 skiers were counted on the slopes at one stage. Clubs from all parts of New Zealand were represented. Conditions on the field were excellent. the ski instructor, Mr Olaf Rodegara, told the Daily Times representative last night. There was plenty of snow, he said, although there w/is a slight crust on the unbeaten slopes. The Wakatipu Ski club competitions which will begin with the Wigley Cup event next Saturday and Sunday will be followed during the next week-end by the Aorangi (Wellington) and University Club runs. Many of the skiers out during the last few days were no doubt practising for the events of the coming fortnight and also for the national championships, which will be held at Mount Egmont on September 6 and 7.
