HUGE TYRES FOR EARTH-MOVING MACHINE

An ordinary 16-inch tyre will almost fit inside the giant earth-remover tyres shown in the picture. They were imported for Contract Cultivation, Ltd., by Mr A. Boag of Dunedin and cost about £450 each. They weigh scwt, are sft Sin in diameter, and approximately 2ft across. The two tyres shown were imported from Australia be sea, the time taken from the lodging of the order to delivery being four months. Recently Mr Boag had one sent by air. It took 10 days to reach Auckland and another three to arrive at Dunedin, but the speedy delivery was reflected in the cost of air freight, which was £67. The tyres are for use on a carry-all engaged in work on the Pukaki hydro-electric scheme.
