WOMEN MUSICIANS

WORKS OF BRAHMS Brahms and his music constituted the subject at the August meeting of the Society of Women Musicians. Miss Irene Barth, vice-president, welcomed the new members. Miss Muriel Noble gave a comDrehensive talk on, Brahms’s life and the evolution of his music, after which the following programme was presented:— Piano, " Sonata in C minor,” Mrs H. McKinlay; songs, “On the Lake,” “A Sonnet 4 of the Thirteenth Century,” “Tears," "By the Window” (folk song), Miss Pat Thorn; cello, “ Sonata in E minor,” Op. 38 (first two movements), Mrs Russel] Stewart, with Mrs C. Flamank at the piano; part songs (conducted by Miss Meda Paine), "Ave Maria,” “The Trees by the River,” and " The Gardener.” The accompanists were Misses Meda Paine and Jessie Jones. Miss Myra Kirkpatrick thanked the performers.
