COLLAPSE OF WALL

OFFICIAL CONDEMNING ANTICIPATED The retaining wall which collapsed in York place on Saturday morning toppled before the civic authorities had an opportunity to condemn it, although its condition had been reported by the owner of the house. Measurements were taken last week, when the wall was tested by the city engineer's staff, and it had been planned to take further measurements yesterday but the wall, having no knowledge of the regulations covering the condemning of construction work, collapsed before a record of any movement could be obtained. The house, apparently, is not in as precarious a position as it seemed. Secure in the knowledge that their dwelling has its foundations firmly set in rock the owners report that they have no thought of evacuating.
