CITY FIRES
EXPLOSION IN FACTORY At 12.21 p.m. yesterday the Central Brigade attended a fire at the Acetone Illuminating Welding Company’s factory in Ward street, where a slight explosion in a liquid air machine caused a fire. • The damage was confined to the machine. At 7.59 a.m., the South Dunedin Brigade attended a chimney fire in Grove street, St. Kilda, and at 4.48 p.m. there was a call to a gorse fire near the Post and Telegraph Department’s workshops in Anderson’s Bay road. Four minutes later a gorse fire in Miller street, Abbotsford, required the services of an engine.
