WAR MEMORIAL DISCUSSION
TAKARO PARK SCHEME FAVOURED A vole on tlic three proposals under consideration by the North Otago War Memorial Committee to determine an order of priority for the guidance of the executive was taken at a meeting of the General Committee yesterday. The voting resulted 1. Takaro Park development (18 votes).' 2. Chapel or shrine (12 votes). 3. Bridge of remembrance 7 votes). Mr A. R. Tait was in the chair in the absence of the Mayor, Mr J. C. Kirkness, and there was ait attendance of some 40 members. Mr H. P. Kent (secretary) said that there were 155 delegates to the committee, and a motion that the meeting adjourn to enable a greater representation to =be present before any voting was taken was lost. The chairman pointed out, however, that the voting was to be a guide to the executive only and not a final decision, as any (inal decision would of necessity be governed by costs. Mrs Smith Morton, representing the promoters of the scheme for the shrine, and Mr John Watson, as promoter of the Takaro Park development scheme, were elected to the executive.
