NORFOLK ISLAND

CONTROL BY DOMINION NEGOTIATIONS SUGGESTED Parliamentary Reporter WELLINGTON, Aug. 14. A suggestion that when the Pjrime Minister, Mr Fraser, was in Canberra later this month he should discuss with the Australian Minister of External Affairs the possibility of New Zealand taking over the administration of Norfolk Island was made by Mr A. M. Finlay (Govt., North 1 Shore) during the debate on foreign affairs in the House of Representatives today. Mr Finlay said that Norfolk Island was at present under the control of Australia, but its economy was such that Norfolk Island had difficulty in selling its -produce, such as citrus fruits, to Australia where they competed with Australian products. Such exports, however, would find a ready market in New Zealand. Because of certain political differences, however, it was difficult at present for produce from Norfolk Island to reach New Zealand.
