DUNEDIN JOCKEY CLUB

SPRING MEETING PROGRAMME At the monthly meeting of the committee of the Dunedin Jockey Club held yesterday afternoon, there were present Messrs L C. Hazlett (chairman), A. Clark. K. Clark, W. H. Elliott, A. P. Greenfield, W. Garrett, J. A. Gow. B. S. Irwin, D. M. Reid, A. N. Smith, R. W. Wilson and Dr E. R. Harty. The Otago Centennial Association wrote thanking the club for the gift of 50 free admission tickets for each race day during the main celebrations in February of next year. It was decided to contribute £SOO towards the Centennial Fund. The harriers’ secretary of the Otago Amateur Athletic Association wrote expressing appreciation of the generous attitude of the club in making the Wingatui racecourse available free of charge for the annual trials and championships, and remarking that the property provided one of the finest harrier courses in the Dominion. Eleven new members were elected to fill vacancies on the membership list. The financial statement was tabled, and accounts amounting to £1946 Os lOd were passed for payment. Officials Appointed The following officials were appointed:— Honorary treasurer, Mr >A. N. Smith; handicapper, Mr C. E. Hassall; judge, Mr A. O. Wellwood; judge’s assistant, Mr J. Stevens; starter, Mr P. D. Macnab; starter’s assistant, Mr I. G. Macnab; clerk of scales, Mr C. R. Caffin; clerk of course, Mr F. G. Carter; timekeeper, Mr J. A. White, jun.; gates’ inspector, Mr T. D. Webster; totalisator manager, Mr G. Wilhelmsen; farrier, Mr G. Smeaton. Sub-committees were appointed as follows: —Tracks: Messrs Hazlett (chairman), A. Clark, Draper, Gow and Wilson. Works: Messrs Hazlett (chairman), Draper, Greenfield, Irwin and Gow. Finance. Messrs Smith (chairman). K. Clark, Garrett. Hazlett and Dr Harty. Programme: Messrs Reid (chairman), K. Clark. Greenslade, Gow. Hazlett and Smith. Band, Catering and Entertainment: Messrs Greenfield (chairman). Elliott. Hazlett, Reid, Greenslade and Dr Harty. Totalisator: Messrs \ Garrett (chairman). Draper. Hazlett. Smith and Wilson. Spring Meeting The programme for the spring meeting was completed, entries to close on September 12. It was decided to start the first race at 11 a.m. and the last race at 4.20 p.m. each day. Messrs J. A. Gow and A. N. Smith were re-appointed as birdcage steward and totalisator steward respectively, and the following Judicial Committee was appointed:—Messrs Hazlett (chairman), Elliott, Greenslade, Reid and Dr Harty. It was resolved to make the necessary application for permission to draw the barrier positions immediately after the closing of acceptances. The New Zealand Racing Conference notified that the levy due by the club for the 1947-48 season would amount to £5lB 3s Bd.
