Nicolson was reappointed as the representative of the Dunedin branch of the Returned Services’ Association on the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the association last night.

Mr J. J Marlow has been elected president of the New Zealand Chess Association. He has been president on a previous occasion, and it will be appropriate that he should occupy the position when the association’s annual congress will be held in Dunedin in centenary year.

The Dunedin Rotary Club has elected the following to form its Executive Committee for 1947-B:—President, the Rev. W. Allen Stevely; vice-president, Mr R. H. Stevenson; directors—Messrs A. V. Gain, G. A. Russell, W. R. Sellars, R. M. Wilkinson; treasurer, Mr G. W. Lane; secretary, Mr G. Davidson; auditor, Mr L M. Satterthwaite; sergeant at arms Mr J. C. Shand.

The Canadian High Commissioner, Mi A. E Rive, was the guest of the Mayor, Mr Cameron, at morning tea in the mayoral rooms yesterday ‘and later left for Invercargill. Mr Rive who is making his first visit to the south, will return to Dunedin to-morrow, when he will give a luncheon address to members of the Dunedin Rotary Club. He will be the guest of the Otago Officers’ Club to-morrow night, and will leave on Friday for Christchurch. „ The appointment of Mr B R. Kae, M.8.E., as New Zealand Trade Commissioner in Melbourne, replacing Mr J. A. Malcolm, who was recently transferred to a similar post in Montreal, was announced yesterday by the Minister of Industries and Commerce, Mr Nordmeyer. Mr Rae served with the R.N.Z.A.F. during the war as senior administration officer with the New Zealand Air Mission in Ottawa, and was stationed in Canada from Match, 1940 until his return to New Zealand m January, 1946, to take up the position of director of accounts in the Air Department.
