LADY CHRISTINE IMPRESSES CANDIDATES FOR HASTINGS WORKED Special to the Daily Times WELLINGTON, Aug. 5. Lady Christine gave evidence that she will strip at her peak for the early classics by recording a useful effort over six furlongs at Trentham this morning. As only five local horses will be racing a., the' Hawke’s Bay Hunt Club’s meeting at Hastings on Saturday there was little fast work accomplished. Conditions were ideal and the middle of the course proper provided good going. Partnered by Palissy, Lady Christine left six furlongs behind in lmin 19 3-ssec, the last half-mile in 53 3-ssec. They kept together throughout and both finished full of running. Lady Christine is likely to make her three-year-old debut in the open sprint at the Foxton meeting on August 30 preparatory to contesting the Wanganui Guineas. She will then contest the Wellington Guineas in October Hurdles Contestant Allt Sloper. who is engaged in the Olane Hack and Hunters’ Hurdles at Hastings, galloped a mile in lmin 54 4-ssec, the last half in 56 3-ssec. Alii Sloper ran a promising race on the final day at Trentham but lost his rider in the early stages of the Rosebank Hack Hurdles at Marton the following week. He will be ridden at Hastings by D. Moore. Cooraclare cleared out from Tribal Night over the final furlong of six which he rain in lmin 20 l-ssec, the last halfmile in 53 l-ssec. He is to contest the Tikoklno Handicap at Hastings and may have a light-weight’s chance. Tribal Night is also engaged in the Tikokino Handicap. Improving Maiden

Galloping easily, Lord Holland was two lengths ahead of Miss Trivalve at the end of half a mile in 55sec. Lord Holland is holding his condition much better than he did last season and should soon lose his maiden status. Miss Trivalve is an unraced three-year-old by Sir Beau— Trelitha, owned by Mrs M. Quinn, of Otaki, and trained by D. McCauley. Bonnie Fair and Blue Pier were on terms after running the last four of five furlongs in 52sec. N. Cavaney will ride Bonnie Fair in the Omarunui Hack Handicap at Hastings. Marilyn was never at top while completing half a mile in 55sec. She is to make her reappearance in the open sprint at Foxton and will then contest the Wanganui Guineas. The only schooling was a bout over six hurdles by Marcelona (R. Thompson). He measured his fences well and gave a fast and clean exhibition. He will be reserved for the hurdle event at the Foxton meeting. Zealander and Tutere returned from Riccarton to-day. Tutere stifled himself slightly in the Trial Hurdles but he had recovered from the injury yesterday.
