LESS “RED TAPE”

PASSAGES BY AIR SIMPLIFIED PROCEDURE STANDARDISATION PROPOSALS PA AUCKLAND, Aug. 4. Simplification of the procedure to which air transport operators m New Zealand have to conform is being sought by Mr H. H. Galbraith, chair* man of the Transport and Traffic Forms and Documents Sub-committee of the International Air Transport Association, who arrived on the PanAmerican clipper to-day. Mr Galbraith said he hoped to •bring about a reduction m the amount of “ red tape ” which the New Zealand Government required of passengers and operators. Air transport would be facilitated if there were fewer forms to fill in and fewer delays at reception centres. He would discuss matters with Government officials in Wellington and would offer suggestions about the method which had been adopted in other parts of the world. The object of his organisation, which was representative of all leading airline companies in the world, he said, was to bring about standardisation of procedure and rates throughout the world. Its headquarters were at Montreal, Canada, and it worked very closely with the International Civil Aviation Organisation, which also had its headquarters in Montreal. By these means, it was hoped to make the requirements for passengers, freight and operators uniform. Mr Galbraith said he had recently completed a tour of La tin -American countries and as a result there had been an improvement in the services. After leaving New Zealand he would meka a tour of the Pacific coastline, calling at Australia, Suva, Honolulu, Shanghai, Tokio, Hongkong, Manila and possibly Calcutta or Bangkok.
