REFRESHER COURSE
LOCAL GOVERNMENT OFFICERS EX-SERVICE PERSONNEL A refresher course for ex-service-men who are local Government officers will be commenced in the Dunedin R SA. Hall to-day, and will be continued until Thursday, August 14. 1 Mr H. N. Ballinger, personnel officer of the Department of Internal Affairs, who is the warden for the course informed the Daily Times yesterday thatrt 'was primarily for men emnloved in the South Island, but some North Island ex-servicemen who were unable to attend the conference at Rotorua for North Island officers w,ll participate m the course at Dunedin, some coming from as far afield as Auckland and Wanganui. at tend Ninety ex-servicemen wIU attend the course, which will open at 10.30 this morning. It will cover lectures by recognised authorities who will discuss aspects of the administration of citv council, county council, hosDital and harbour board affairs. Local bodies throughout the South Island W,, rc e . m l Sfte' , o?Ve r ssetup in Wellington some time ago to make arrangements for the course. The chairman of this committee is Mr F. B Stephens, secretary of the Local Bodies’ Commission, who arrived in Dunedin yesterday,. tether with Mr a G Harper, assistant under-secre ta'ry of the Department of Internal Affairs, to be present at the opening. The work of the course will commence each day at 9 a.m. and continue until noon, and the afternoon session will extend from 2 p.m. to S p.m. A visit is being arranged to Whare Flat, where the City Council forestry development work will be inspected, and the visitors will also be taken for a motor drive round the environs of the city. An all-day trip to Waipori is being arranged for Sunday. Proceedings will be opened by the Mayor, Mr Cameron, who will be supported in his remarks by Mr M.S. Myers, president of the Dunedin Returned Services’ Association; Colonel Barrington, of the Rehabilitation Department, Wellington; and Messrs Stephens and Harper.
