CHEESE PROCESSING

AN OTAGO VENTURE NEW FACTORY TO BE BUILT j A new factory to produce processed cheese is to be built in Dunedin by the Co-operative Dairy Company of Otago, Ltd., and special machinery, which has been ordered from Switzerland, is expected to arrive early next year. This will be the first cheese processing factory to be established in the South Island, but it will be competing with northern firms at present manufacturing this type of cheese. A site for the factory has been acquired on the reclaimed area, but building operations have not yet been commenced. In the event of the plant arriving before the new building is completed, the company will probably install the machinery in Oamaru premises and commence manufacturing there. Future developments would then be governed by the demand for the company’s product.
