THE NATIONAL ORCHESTRA

Sir, —The tumultuous ovation given to Mr Warwick Braithwaite and the inspired playing of the National Orchestra together seem to prove that this combination is what both the nubile and the orchestra desire. In his short speech after the performance last Tuesday evening, he mentioned that the orchestra was playing with more “ sympathy ” than when he first met its members; of course, they were—they recognised and felt that they were playing for a conductor who knew how to lead them. Is it too late to retain the services of this outstanding New Zealand conductor? The Prime Minister stated months aeo that Mr Tyrer was only getting the orchestra together.
