LATEST ALLOCATIONS OVER 50,000 APPLICATIONS . IN HAND p.A. WELLINGTON, Aug. 4. During the month of June the total number of State hoiises let or relet throughout the Dominion was 284, and of these tenancies 128 were granted to ex-servicemen applicants, stated the Minister in Charge of State Housing, Mr Hackett, to-day. . , The districts affected were: Auck-land-North Auckland, 102; WaikatoBay of Plenty, 17; Taranaki, 5; Wellington - Manawatu - Wairarapa, 100; Nelson-Marlborough-West Coast, 12; Canterbury. 27; Otago, 17; Southland, 4 In the same month 1066 applications for State tenancies were lodged—477 from ex-servicemen and 589 from civilians. Applications on hand as at the end of June were 53,682 —15,063 from ex-servicemen and 38,619 ’ from civilians. From the inception of the housing scheme 23,112 tenancies had been made available to both classes of applicants.
