MOSGIEL’S IMPROVEMENT
Northern opened strongly. McLean tested Martin, and then a heavy sustained attack found the Mosgiel goalie having to deal with all manner of shots. It was at this stage that Northern' should have - forced ahead, as Mosgiel’s play was very weak. Gradually, however, Mosgiel settled down and played a spoiling game under pressure, the ball rarely reaching the forwards. Kaley was prominent' when he sent Graham away. The latter’s cross was cleared, but Graham met the rebound and beat Martin from close in. Graham had a chance later, but Martin smothered his shot. Skinner sent across a dangerous swerving shot, and Nicholson forced Stevenson to concede a corner. Mosgiel rearranged its team, Davidson going to left-back, where he played soundly. Mosgiel did not look like scoring until Skinner swung out to the left, and, evading two defenders, in-passed to Nicholson, who equalised with a ground shot inside the upright. The game brightened considerably, and some interesting exchanges took place, but the scoring of goals appeared beyond either side. In the closing stages McLean and Mills collided in going for a high ball, McLean having to leave the field. Hill missed a " sitter,” and Martin earned applause when he stopped a difficult ball from Jenkins. The game ended in a draw, a goal each. Mr L. Swann was the referee.
