URGENT SOLUTION
RECOGNISED BY INQUIRY COMMITTEE LONDON, Aug. 1. The Geneva correspondent of The Times says that the report of the United Nations Palestine Committee will be grouped under three main headings—first, the historical background of the Palestine problem; secondly, an analysis of possible solutions; thirdly, its recommendations. Ways and means of carrying out the committee’s recommendations will be indicated on the broadest lines for guidance of the mandatory Power in the possible transition period. Should the decision be in favour of partition, such recommendations will of necessity cover the question of minorities and boundaries. The committee’s president, Herr Sandstrom (Sweden), said yesterday that what they had seen and heard in Palestine had given them a clear picture of the situation and had impressed upon them the urgent need for a solution. He admitted that the picture might have been more complete if the Arab Higher Committee had seen fit to participate in the inquiry, but he added that the committee was not without knowledge of the Arab case, which had been plainly set forth on many previous occasions.
