SITUATION IN RANGOON NATIONAL DAY OF MOURNING DECLARED Rec. 1 a.m. RANGOON, July 22. It is learned that more than 300 persons have been arrested in the Rangoon ’area since the assassinations of Burmese Ministers on Saturday. There are no reports of trouble in the Country areas, and the situation in Rangoon itself is normal. . Newspapers reported that the authorities have detained a British officer of an army ordnance depot in Burma for questioning about the reported disappearance of 200 Bren guns and 10,000 rounds of ammunition from the ordnance depot last week. Next Saturday will be a national day of mourning in Burma. Aung San’s successor, Thakin Nu, issued a declaration stating: “My best friend and comrade has fallen. Nothing shall deter me from the firm purpose of achieving the ultimate goal which our beloved leader set before us.’* The leader of the Communist Party. Thakin Tun, issued a statement asking for unification of the anti-Fascist People’s Freedom League and Communist Party.
