STORM-DAMAGED ROOFS

GUARANTEE OF MATERIALS SOUGHT WATERSIDERS BAN EXPORT Rec. 9 p.m. SYDNEY, June 11/ The watersiders have extended their ban on to the loading of roofing iron for New Guinea. They now refuse to handle down-piping, guttering and ridge capping also. The appeal of the Rev G van Eerde was conveyed to the men by Mr T. Dowling, wharf delegate of the Waterside Workers’ Federation. Many watersiders live in houses with leaking roofs in the Redfern and Waterloo suburbs. The men decided that the ban would remain until the State or Federal Government guaranteed enough roofing material to repair all the storm damaged roofs in Sydney. The Federal Executive of the Waterside Workers’ Federation is considering a general ban on the export of all scarce building materials.
