COMING BUDGET

THE TAXATION ISSUE MR NASH’S EXPLANATION P.A. WELLINGTON, June 11. In an interview to-day, the Minister of Finance, Mr Nash, said he had not told trade union delegates that no tax reduction could be expected this year. He had said, however, that if a deficit should occur a reduction would be unlikely. Mr Nash said the statements in his reported remarks were not in accord with the way he saw things in general, although some of the subjects were discussed at the Federation conference. It would be difficult for Britain to pay higher prices, particularly taking into account the circumstances now. He had told the delegates about Britain's difficulties and had expressed the opinion that it would be rather hard for New Zealand to ask her to pay higher prices. “ I never anticipate what the Budget will be,” said Mr Nash.
