TROUBLE WITH CREW
INTERCOLONIAL FREIGHTER WAIRATA HELD UP P.A. WELLINGTON. June 11. Already four days behind her scheduled sailing time, the Union Steam Ship Company’s intercolonial vessel Wairata is now indefinitely delayed by crew trouble.' Representatives of the company and the Seamen’s Union negotiated this morning, but although many of the crew’s demands were settled, there is still a bone of contention. The crew demands that in future the Wairata should carry a messman, whose job it would be to look after the accommodation of the seamen.
. A Union Company representative pointed out to-day that the award provides for this work being done by members of the existing crew. Until ah agreement is reached members of the Seamen’s Union have refused to accept engagement with the vessel. The crew have been standing by as day workers, and are required to sign on full-time ship’s articles before the Wairata can sail. ■
