THE WANGANELLA
NEW BERTH REQUIRED SEA BED UNSUITABLE P.A. WELLINGTON, May 29. No further attempts would be made to settle the Wanganella’s damaged bows on the harbour bottom at Clyde Quay wharf, said the Marine Superintendent of Huddart Parker Company, Mr D. E. Eadie. to-night, as the mud and clay was much softer than was expected. The ship could be kept afloat indefinitely by air compressors but a new shallow water berth for the Wanganella was required so -that the ship’s bows could be settled firmly and left to rest until the arrival of repair materials. In Wellington, such a berth was not easy to find, but inspections were being made. Reports that the ship had been in danger of keeling over were untrue, said Mr Eadie. The Wanganella had an immense reserve of stability and had at no .time been in danger at Clyde Quay.
