The first race at Wingatui on Saturday is timed to start at 11 a.m. Nominations for the Oamaru meeting are due to-day. No pronounced favourite has yet been found for the Birthday Handicap. Wantwood will probably have his next race at Trentham in July. Robot is to be put aside until the spring. He is suffering from strangles. Air Ace has been showing such promise in his schooling as a hurdler that his owner, Mr J. P. O’Brien, contemplates taking him to Trentham in July. The Bulandshar mare Soneri is to be started in the King George Handicap, of seven furlongs, on the second day of the Great Northern meeting on June 2. Change In Weight French Knight, who is engagtd in the Tahuna Steeplechase on Saturday, will carry 10.5, not 10.7, as published. Kinnoull Mare The Kinnoull mare entered in the Tahuna Steeplechase has been namel Kiloran. Her breeding is by Kinnoull from a mare by Ivanoff, from Fireblight. Working Well Gold Song has been working well for W. Hancock and the Battle Song horse should race prominently at the Wingatui meeting. The Broiefort two-year-old Slick, in the same stable, is coming on nicely. Otago Hurdles At the New Zealand Cup meeting Lost Art and Battle Chief met in the Middleton Hurdles of about one mile and threequarters, Lost Art winning with 10.12 and Battle Chief finishing third with 9.83. In the Otago Hurdles there is only 21b between them and there is little doubt that of the two the public will prefer Lost Art. Trial Stakes Candidate Perusha, a candidate for the Trial Stakes on Saturday, has been placed in four of his six starts this season, his most recent race being at the Southland meeting last month, when, he finished third to Sandy’s Pride and Kasimov in the Novice Handicap. A four-year-old by Friday Night from Panocha, Perusha is trained by J\ Thistleton.
