CLEARED OF BANDITS

LARGE SECTOR IN GREECE Rec. 9 p.m. LONDON, May 26. The Athens correspondent of The Times says that the Greek General Staff announces that, as the result of operations which began on April 9. the whole of the Pindus-Agrapha district from Kalabaka southward to Karpen—an area of 4000 square kilometre? —has been completely cleared of bandits. The announcement added that many bandits were trying to re-enter the cleared area. The correspondent adds that as it is estimated that 8000 or 9000 bandits are still active it is without doubt that it will take a long time to bring peace to the country relying on military measures alone.
