MOUNT BENGER EWE FAIR
A WEAK DEMAND
The Mount Benger ewe fair was conducted at Mount Benger yesterday, when an average yarding of 6548 sheep came forward. The entry was almost entirely fine woolled. being made up of approx. 1600 lambs and odd pens of wethers. The balance were ewes, principally annual drafts. There was a fair attendance, including Canterbury buyers. The dry weather prevailing in this area, as well as restricting local competition, showed its effect in a proportion of pennings not being at the usual standard. Vendors readily met the market, and in most cases had to accept prices showing a reduction on the corresponding rates last season. Competition was dull throughout for ewes. Lambs required for turning out had in places a fair inquiry.
