BARGE DAMAGED
FIRE FOLLOWS EXPLOSION Rec. 9 p.m. SYDNEY, Mar. 17. With a great flash of flame, the barge of Rear-Admiral H. B. Farncombe, staff officer commanding the Australian Squadron, exploded at Man-o’-war Steps this afternoon. Two ratings who were in the stern, dived into the harbour and escaped with minor burns. The Rear-Admiral was on board the cruiser Hobart at the time and the crew were starting the barge to pick him up. The fire was brought under control with hand extinguishers, but the barge was severely damaged. • .
