ST. STEPHEN’S CHURCH

ANNIVERSARY FUNCTIONS

There was a large gathering of past and present members of St. Stephen's Church in the Church Hall last evening for the tea and social which concluded the seventy-fifth anniversary celebrations of the congregation. The celebrations began with special services on Suncjay, when there was a record attendance at the communion service in the morning, which was conducted by the minister, the Rev, C. L. Gosling. The evening service was conducted by the Rev. Professor G. A. F. Knight, the new professor of Old Testament studies in the Presbyterian Theological Hall. Professor Knight was preaching for the first time in New Zealand since his arrival from Scotland. The social gathering last evening, which was*presided over by Mr Gosling, was attended bv the Mayor, Mr Cameron, the Moderator of the Dunedin Presbytery, the Rev. R. S. Watson, the Rev. Thomas Miller and Mrs Miller, Mr Miller being the former minister of the congregation, and Sold residents of North Dunedin, inlg Mr W. H. Adams, who was in the Sunday school In 1871, when the congregation was constituted. Mr Adams was given a rousing reception when he rose to speak. Mrs A. Edmonds, who has been a member for 60 years, was present to cut the birthday cake she had presented. Items were given by the choir, under the conductorship of Mr H. Chisholm, and by the Sunday school children.
