RECEPTION TO VISITORS
OTAGO' CRICKET ASSOCIATION
The members of the touring team on their arrival yesterday were tendered a reception by the Otago Cricket Association. The president, Mr J. A. Robson, in welcoming the visitors, said he was delighted to see an English team in New Zealand, as it would give the game a tremendous impetus in the Dominion. A splendid wicket had been prepared at Carisbrook, and some first-class cricket should be seen. The Mayor, Mr Cameron, welcomed the tourists on behalf of the citizens and sporting bodies of Dunedin. “We are glad to have you in Dunedin for your own sakes, because your names are now household words in New Zealand,’ Mr Cameron added. “Another reason why you are welcome is because, we are glad to have people from Home.”
Mr Walter Hammond, the captain of the visiting team, said that he and his colleagues were glad to be in Dunedin. Their .tour, which was now nearing • its end, had been a long and hard one.
