INCORPORATION OF MENTAL HOSPITALS UNIFIED? ADMINISTRATION P.A. WELLINGTON Mar. 13. Tjie Minister of Health, Mr Nordmeyer, announced this morning that it had been, decided to amalgamate under one administrative head the Departments of Health and Mental Hospitals. which hitherto have been separate departments, each under a Direc-tor-general, In future, for administrative purposes the two departments will be joined under a permanent head, to be designated Secretary of the Department. There will also be professional heads of the health and mental hygiene divisions corresponding to the present departments. Legislation will be required to make these changes, but in the meantime Dr T. R. Ritchie will act as Director-general of Health, and Dr J. Russell as Director-general of Mental Hospitals. This follows the retirement of Dr M. H. Watt and Dr T. G. Gray respectively, from those positions. The three positions envisaged under the new scheme will be advertised by the Pub' lie Service Commission
